Lighting Design Challenges for Municipal Roads

Large municipal lighting projects must deliver consistent results across many different road conditions. Street width, pole height, pole spacing, mounting angle and distance from the road all affect final lighting performance. A luminaire that works well on one road may not provide the required illuminance or uniformity on another.

The tender required professional DIALux studies and IES photometric files for the proposed luminaires. Submitted lighting calculations also had to be verified on site through measurements such as illuminance, candela, power, voltage, current and power factor under the supervision of the relevant authorities.

The luminaires also had to withstand the project’s demanding environmental requirements, including temperatures from −20°C to +50°C, high humidity and wind gusts of up to approximately 160 km/h. Key requirements included IP66 protection, surge protection of at least 10 kV, corrosion-resistant die-cast aluminium housings and verified third-party test documentation.

DIALux Street Lighting Design and Luminaire Selection

LUXIFIC approached the project as a complete engineering assignment rather than a simple product supply contract. The team analysed road width, pole height, spacing, outreach and mounting angle before selecting the appropriate product and optics.

DIALux street lighting design was used to test lighting levels and uniformity before installation. PISCES, TAURUS and VEGA LED street lights were configured across a 20–100 W range with 4000K colour temperature and CRI 70. Luminaire IES files supplied the photometric data needed to calculate performance on the actual road geometry.

Manufacturing Quality for a 105,000-Unit Project

For a project involving 105,000 units, production consistency was critical. Component selection, thermal management, surge protection, ingress protection and assembly quality were controlled throughout production so that approved performance could be repeated across the full project quantity.

Zhaga LED Street Lights for Smart Control Readiness

The luminaires incorporated Zhaga-standard interfaces. This standardised physical and electrical connection supports compatible sensors or controllers and gives municipalities a practical route to future smart-lighting upgrades without redesigning the complete luminaire platform.

Zhaga is an interface standard rather than a control network. The selected node, communication technology and central management system determine the final control functions. For this project, the Zhaga LED street lights provided a smart-ready foundation while retaining dependable standalone lighting performance.

Why LUXIFIC Won the Street Lighting Tender

The tender evaluation placed 70% of the score on the technical proposal and 30% on the financial proposal. The lowest price alone could not win the project.

  • Accurate DIALux calculations based on real road conditions
  • Suitable optical distributions for different municipal streets
  • PISCES, TAURUS and VEGA luminaires covering project requirements from 20 W to 100 W
  • Zhaga-standard interfaces for smart-ready connectivity
  • Reliable project-grade luminaire construction
  • Complete photometric and technical documentation
  • Verified compliance with demanding electrical and environmental requirements
  • Production capacity and quality control for a 105,000-unit project

Our proposal succeeded in a field of strong competitors because the calculations were precise, the technical response was complete and the product quality could be verified through both documentation and on-site testing.

LED Street Light Installation on the municipal network

The installation photographs from the municipal area show the practical execution of the street-lighting replacement programme. Existing conventional fixtures were removed and new LED luminaires were installed on the municipal network using aerial work platforms and coordinated field teams.

This stage translated the predicted lighting performance into reliable real-world operation. Careful installation, correct luminaire positioning and field verification helped ensure that the completed system met the project requirements.

Results of the Asia Smart Street Lighting Project

The Asia smart street lighting project demonstrates LUXIFIC’s ability to support large and technically demanding outdoor-lighting programmes from photometric design through mass production and project implementation.

For municipalities, contractors and lighting integrators, the value of a supplier is not measured only by the unit price. It is measured by whether the calculations are dependable, whether every production batch performs consistently and whether technical support remains available when the project reaches installation.

With 105,000 Zhaga-ready LED luminaires delivered for this project, LUXIFIC showed how precise DIALux engineering, smart-ready product architecture and reliable manufacturing can turn a demanding tender specification into a scalable municipal lighting solution.

Frequently Asked Questions
